Mission & History | American Chamber Chorale

Founded in 2001 by Stephen Morton, Artistic Director and Conductor, the Chorale is a unique choral ensemble that . . .

    • Emphasizes the works of today’s most significant composers as well as traditional composers
    • Collaborates with other arts and artists to provide a richer and deeper artistic experience for the performers and patrons
    • Strives to make music enjoyable and accessible to a wide variety of audiences
    • Gives back to the community, supporting local charitable organizations.
Through the years, the American Chamber Chorale’s emphasis on recently composed musical gems has brought a rich diversity of compositions to our audiences. A variety of musical styles has included both sacred and secular works, major works with orchestra, and music from other cultures. Celebrating compositions by today’s most significant composers, the Chorale seeks to enrich and educate as it promotes the preservation of these important compositions.
The Chorale’s innovative and collaborative programming has enriched audiences by bringing to the St. Louis Community the finest choral music that appeals to heart, mind and soul. An annual Featured Concert Series has brought variety, creativity and authenticity to patrons. Collaborations with other artists have included ethnic dancers representative of Japan, China, Spain, and Ireland, Taiko drummers, marionettes, and varied instrumentalists. Prior to Season XVI, members of the St. Louis Chamber Orchestra have accompanied the Chorale in many concerts, maintaining the authenticity of selections performed, such as the presentation of Mozart’s Requiem, and Pärt’s Stabat Mater.  The Salem-St. Louis Chamber Orchestra joins the Chorale in all free concerts in Season XVI.  The Chamber Orchestra is comprised of talented professional musicians in the St. Louis area.  Educational pre-concert lectures are provided for some concerts. Our mission is to perform both classical and modern choral works, many of which are new to St. Louis audiences, that are blended with other artistic mediums resulting in a concert experience that is unique, inspirational and accessible to fans of great musical performances.
The Chorale’s Featured Concert Series has served to benefit many non-profit charitable organizations including Feed My PeopleLydia’s HouseRonald McDonald HouseLutheran Family and Children’s ServicesEmmaus HomeHabitat For Humanity, and Youth In Need.  The American Chamber Chorale is special, unique, and fills a role that no other organization does so well. It is important to the St. Louis community, to lovers of choral music and to people who want to preserve a rich and vibrant musical and artistic culture in St. Louis. No other group brings this unique combination of choral music, other artistic disciplines, and charitable focus to St. Louis.
