In Tribute Concert

Salem was indeed a great venue for this concert. The concert was divided into two parts: Mozart’s Requiem was absolutely wonderful! The soloists chosen for this concert were ideal and sang beautifully. The unique color of the basset horns provided contrast with bassoon, trombones, and strings just as Mozart surely intended. The Chorale sang with nuance and emotion often missing from performances of this work.

The setting of Stabat Mater by Arvo Pärt was a great contrast to Mozart and proved to be deeply moving. Candles purchased by Chorale Friends and patrons provided the only lighting during this austere piece and it was truly beautiful visually and musically.
