Artistic Director & Conductor

Stephen brings a rich and diverse background to the Chorale with extensive experience as a conductor, teacher, and singer. Mr. Morton’s educational background includes a bachelor of Arts degree from Milligan College and a Master of Music degree from the University of Tennessee. As a singer, Mr. Morton has sung leading bass-baritone roles in both opera and oratorio and studied voice with the renowned Edward Zambara.

Other current positions of leadership include Lecturer in Voice at the University of Missouri – St. Louis and Associate Professor of Music at the St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Mr. Morton also serves as a Worship Associate at Salem in Ladue United Methodist Church where he directs the Chancel Choir.

In demand as a voice teacher, Mr. Morton was invited to join UMSL’s voice faculty in 2005. Previous conducting positions include the Bel Canto Chorus and the St. Louis Metro Singers. As a guest conductor, Mr. Morton has appeared locally with choruses of St. Louis University, Washington University, and has led the Southern Illinois All-District Choir.
